A landmark step toward cleaner and more affordable energy was recorded in Akwa Ibom State with the arrival of the first major consignment of equipment for a 10-million-standard-cubic-feet-per-day Compressed Natural Gas mother station at Uquo Isi Edoho in Esit Eket Local Government Area.
Manufactured by CIMC of China, the shipment includes high-capacity compressors, dehydration and filtration units, heat exchangers and generating sets. Nsik Oil & Gas Company Limited received the equipment, marking a decisive advance toward commissioning and the eventual rollout of a statewide CNG distribution network.
Project Consultant Mkuccessfully passed Factory Acceptance Testing in China under the supervision of Nigerian regulators before shipment.
The project is an equity partnership between Nsik Oil & Gas, led by Managing Director Nsikan Johnny, and the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. Four reciprocating compressors, supporting systems and four generator sets have already been delivered to site, forming the core of the processing plant.posong Asuquo explained that the facility is strategically located near existing gas infrastructure, allowing it to draw feedstock efficiently. He confirmed that the equipment s
Power reliability has been carefully designed, with both gas-fired and alternative generation options to guarantee uninterrupted operations. Two specialised trailers have also been ordered to transport compressed gas to planned daughter stations, ensuring that motorists, industries and communities across Akwa Ibom will benefit from wider access to cleaner fuel.
Asuquo expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, and the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno for their consistent support. He noted that the project has already completed land acquisition, environmental assessments, engineering designs and all required regulatory approvals.
Special Adviser Hon. Kufre Sam emphasised that the mother station and its future network of daughter stations will reduce transportation and production costs, generate employment and extend the benefits of the Federal Government’s CNG initiative to communities across the state’s ten federal constituencies. Commissioning is expected within a short period.
